Possible Masthead Fonts

These fonts are all possible mastheads for our class project to create a school magazine. My favourite one is the 'Ambition' design, so I will continue to research fonts and other designs based on this word for my final magazine cover. This is my favourite because I think the font looks simple but bold therefore it should look good above my main image..

These are examples of school magazines created by other media students. Both feature bright colours, and feature coverlines based on exam stress and topics such as uniform. When I create my own magazine I will have to consider topics which apply to my audience (students aged 15-19). For example if I write about school uniforms and sixth formers are my target audience, this topic becomes irrelevant.

Magazine cover photoshoot

This photoshoot is for our class project to create a school magazine. All images are unedited, but at the moment my favourites are the library picture, the picture outside holding the folder and the bench photo.

Esquire Magazine Cover Remake

Megan Fox for Esquire Remake:

Our task was to recreate the Esquire cover (pictured first), by using the beginners starter pack (the second image). The last image is my version of the magazine cover. If I had more time I would add the additional text and cover lines then finish the layout.

Magazine Covers & Connotations

Magazine Covers and connotations:

Beyonce for Harper's Bazaar UK

The image of Beyonce creates a 'fierce' connotation. This relates to her on-stage alter ego Sasha Fierce, which is the title of her third album. 'Up close with Beyonce' creates an imagined community, as readers will 'get to know' Beyonce.  Many readers who buy this issue are likely to be a fan, so it is important that the cover depicts her as someone to aspire to.The colour use of reds and black emphasise the 'sexy'. 'hot', 'seductive' and 'power' themes presented on the cover and the cover line 'Autumn's sexiest fashion' adds to the connotation of allure and confidence which Beyonce represents herself.

Lana Del Rey for Vogue Australia

Lana Del Rey's cover featured her looking directly at the camera as a mode of address with her hands together, almost in prayer. One of the featured human interest stories is 'Girls Club: Do women make better leaders?' which is a feminist topic. The pink tones and gold palette also support that women are the target gender. The anchoring text 'Fashion & music' denotes that the issue will be based on fashion and music, whereas Vogue magazine is traditionally solely based on fashion. This is also what Lana Del Rey is known for, which argues that 'Fashion & music' could be an anchoring text. As Lana Del Rey's style of music is very dreamy the image of her has been airbrushed so that it looks hazy and this reflects her 'modern take on old Hollywood glamour' style.

Top 3 Media Pieces

My Top 3 Favourite Media Pieces:

1) Short Film: Paperman

Paperman is a short, black and white film by Disney and it was the first short film I had ever watched. It's about a lipstick stained paper bringing the two characters together.

2) 'YouTuber" : SprinkleofGlitter

SprinkleofGlitter/Louise is one of my favourite YouTubers because she creates videos about a variety of topics such advice videos and lookbooks.

3) Music: Aston (Band)

Aston is an Australian classical group which posts symphonic versions of popular songs by famous artists and theme tunes from shows such as Game of Thrones.
