Final pages
These are my final pages: Front cover, contents page and double page spread.
This is my final double page spread. I finished my article and changed the quote from being at the top of the page, to within the article. I also changed the font at the start of the quote 'D'.
Since my last post I have added another image (the last one) and added more features to the 'news & live section'. I also made the grey colour slightly darker by increasing the opacity.

Cover, Contents and double page so far
This is my final magazine cover. I do not plan on changing anything about this as feedback so far has been positive.
My contents page still needs another image and I need to give the 'musician' a name. The background seems a little too faded, so I might change the opacity and I also have to add a few more listings under 'news & live'.
The double page spread is nearly finished, but I need to finish my article and make final changes to the design (such as add a pulled quote, and make the intro writing brighter).

Creating my double page spread
I used the guides on photoshop to form a template for me to create my double page spread. I stuck with the 'wide screen' look and used black and white as a colour scheme to help it fit the indie rock theme.
I added my images which I edited before adding them. I put only the image on the right but decided to add the smaller images to use the space better and make the page more interesting for my reader. The spaces is where my article will go.

Creating my double page spread: first stages
Creating my double page spread:
I am beginning to create my double page spread my working with the background. This is a problem I had when I was creating my contents page because I could not find a suitable colour to compliment the images.
I've added some text, now I've got to edit and add images and my article.

Double page spread analysis
Double page spread analysis:
I chose the following double page spreads ideas to analyse because they focus on different target audiences and the use of images is quite interesting.
This Florence + The Machine feature has a nice layout of a main image on one side and the combination of texts is a good way of making the white background seem more interesting. In my magazine I'd like to use different fonts, and this would help to match my front cover sell lines.
This Lana Del Rey double page spread feature is good at using the space in a more organised way. I like the minimal use of colours (primary tones) but in different shades and the way the article is on one page so the image is not as distracting as the Florence + The Machine image above.
The My Chemical Romance article seems a lot smaller on the
page than the others but the size of the text and the bar on the side fills the page better than the others in my opinion. Again there are only few colours used and this is good at stopping the reader from being distracted, also it fits the theme of rock music as these are colours often associated with it. The smaller images of the band is a nice feature because it uses the space more efficiently.
Overall, for my magazine I will use black and white to fit the indie rock theme. i will try to use one main image but might add some more to use the space better and I will combine fonts to make it look better.

Creating my contents page 2
I was testing different layouts to try and find one that looked minimalistic on the page but still had enough space to fit the images.
I separated my text and images to use the space better. I used the colours featured on my front cover to help establish a house style. Also. I used a better font to separate headings from main text.

Creating my contents page
I've started my contents page by adding the features I know I'll have to add (headings, images). Now I'm going to rearrange the order until I find something which works and I can begin to make it look good. The blue background is being used temporarily to fill the space for the wide screen element.
Here I have tried the layout of one of the magazines I have researched but I do not like the way it looks on the page because it does not look minimalistic enough to meet my target audience's preference.
I added some of my text to make the contents page look more realistic. Now that the images are uniform and the text is on one side it looks more organised. I will add another image below the 'Thane' image, and fill in the 'Features' and 'News & Live' section. Also, I still need to add a colour to fill the background.

Contents Page Research
Images: (L-R) NME Magazine, SPIN Magazine, Q Magazine
Contents Page Research:
All magazines use the colour red which I think is quite effective at introducing colour. There is also use of basic blue, red and yellow tones which i think helps to keep the layout look quite organised while using colour.
I really like the boxes and red lines so I will try to incorporate this into my contents page.
I haven't decided how many images I will use, but I think the way Q Magazine has organised the images looks very neat and this is something I would like Wilderness to look like.

Adding Another Sell Line
I decided to add another sell line '20 free tickets' to the cover because I felt like 'Sound of 2015' did not stand out enough by itself.
I used mixed fonts to differentiate between each line. This helps me to establish a house style which I can use for my other pages.
The rulers helped to ensure that the text was neat and there was the same difference between 'Thane' and 'Hozier'.

Creating Wilderness
The font I used is 'Muro' from DaFont.com. I chose this font because it was most similar to my original design. I used the 'wide screen' effect because this allows me to put the date on the bottom right where it will look more organised.
I used rulers to ensure my text would look neat. As 'Wilderness' was split, this meant that 'wil-der-ness' would look asymmetrical because of the four letters in 'ness' opposed to three in the others. To balance this I added 'combining music and lifestyle' in the same font below to help to create more symmetry.
I used masks for circles and adjusted the 'feather' level which allowed me to achieve a spotlight effect.
I added the text for my cover line in one of the circles and moved it to the center. I also changed the image to black and white to see if it would look better.
The lines/box was another idea but the text did not stand out as much so I used the original spotlight design.
Colour looked better and so did the original positions, so I changed it back and used multiple fonts which reflects what is used for most indie cafes.
