Adding Another Sell Line

I decided to add another sell line '20 free tickets' to the cover because I felt like 'Sound of 2015' did not stand out enough by itself.
I used mixed fonts to differentiate between each line. This helps me to establish a house style which I can use for my other pages.
The rulers helped to ensure that the text was neat and there was the same difference between 'Thane' and 'Hozier'.

Creating Wilderness

The font I used is 'Muro' from DaFont.com. I chose this font because it was most similar to my original design. I used the 'wide screen' effect because this allows me to put the date on the bottom right where it will look more organised.

I used rulers to ensure my text would look neat. As 'Wilderness' was split, this meant that 'wil-der-ness' would look asymmetrical because of the four letters in 'ness' opposed to three in the others. To balance this I added 'combining music and lifestyle' in the same font below to help to create more symmetry.
I used masks for circles and adjusted the 'feather' level which allowed me to achieve a spotlight effect.

I added the text for my cover line in one of the circles and moved it to the center. I also changed the image to black and white to see if it would look better.
The lines/box was another idea but the text did not stand out as much so I used the original spotlight design.
Colour looked better and so did the original positions, so I changed it back and used multiple fonts which reflects what is used for most indie cafes.

Class Project: Contents Page

Contents Page:

Our next task was to create a contents page for our magazine. The following screenshots show the progress of my contents page as it was being created. To begin I put the pictures on the side of the page and added frames around the images which matched the colours used on the front cover. I used the same colour on the font for 'contents' to continue the theme.

Originally I used capitals to write 'contents' but the font did not look as bold as I'd it to, so I added a grey box behind the writing and changed the font style. This made better use of the space on the page and helped to cooperate more of the colours used on on the layout.

I added the subtitles for the contents page next, this was arranged by 'featured stories', 'regulars' and 'groups'.

This is my final contents page. I added page numbers and features for main stories. To improve I would add more images, text and create a better background to improve the overall aesthetic.

Class Project: School Magazine

Ambition Magazine:

Our task was to create a school magazine. This is my front cover. I chose the masthead 'Ambition' as it is a word which applies to my audience of students (aged 15-19). The colours behind the coverlines were used to replicate the effect of highlighters being used, likewise the font used looks like writing on a typerwriter so that it is clear to read. Whereas the other fonts appeared less clear and too bold. Overall, this develops the theme of the magazine fitting in with student life.

Other fonts I considered were:

If I had more time I would improve the image quality to improve the overall aesthetic of the layout, as at the moment the colours appear very bright which appears amateurish.
